Bringing the sound of brass to Darwin and the Top End
Tarnished Brass Darwin is a dynamic and versatile brass ensemble based in the Northern Territory, performing throughout Darwin and the surrounding region.
Originally formed in 2007 as a small community group, the ensemble has grown into a well-established and active brass ensemble. Tarnished Brass now appears regularly at community celebrations, corporate functions, festivals, charity events, church services and a wide range of special occasions across the Top End.
The ensemble has performed at major high-profile events, including the Mindil Beach Casino Resort Oktoberfest celebrations, where its performances have been well received. Following this success, Tarnished Brass has been invited to return for Oktoberfest in 2026.
Community engagement remains central to the group’s identity. Tarnished Brass regularly supports local charitable organisations, including The Salvation Army, particularly through Christmas performances and seasonal community events.
The ensemble is also increasingly engaged for a wide range of events. Its compact size, experienced musicians and flexible repertoire allow Tarnished Brass to deliver the impact and character of a full brass sound while adapting easily to a wide variety of venues and performance settings.
Throughout the year, the group also performs in church environments and community spaces, presenting music suited to both formal and informal occasions.
Tarnished Brass Darwin has maintained a largely stable core of musicians, with only minor changes in personnel over time. Our personnel can be found performing with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and Arafura Wind Ensemble. This continuity has helped the ensemble develop a distinctive sound, a broad and adaptable repertoire, and a consistently professional approach to performance.
