Founded in 2007 and proudly Darwin-made, Tarnished Brass is a vibrant collective of brass lovers who can’t resist making music wherever the opportunity arises. From trumpets to tubas, we bring together some of the Top End’s most enthusiastic and talented brass instrumentalists, all united by one goal: filling every event with bold, vibrant sound.
You’ll spot us popping up all year round in the NT—from Easter and Christmas celebrations to corporate functions, markets, community festivals, and just about anywhere people gather for a good time. Whether it’s setting the mood with smooth harmonies or bringing the house down with big, brassy energy, we’re there for it.
And when Oktoberfest season arrives… we crank things up a notch.
Tarnished Brass Oompah & Tarnished Brass Christmas
This is where we unleash our lederhosen-loving alter ego—a full-blown Oompah experience packed with waltzes, polkas, marches, and modern hits reimagined with a cheeky Oompah twist. Expect oomph, expect energy, expect audience participation… and definitely expect fun.
Tanished Brass Christmas is all about bringing the festive spirit to the fore with carols.

Our Members
The musicians of Tarnished Brass proudly come from two of Darwin’s leading musical organisations — the Arafura Wind Ensemble and the Darwin Symphony Orchestra — bringing professional musicianship, passion, and a shared love of performance to every event.
